A recurring theme in several of my paintings from 2003 was the concept of a couple—two individuals in some form of relationship. I found myself questioning how to depict such a relationship on paper or canvas. How could I visually convey the energy, whether positive or negative, without being too explicit?
The challenge intrigued me, prompting an exploration of the subtleties of body language and facial expressions. I delved into the nuances of gestures and poses, aiming to capture the unspoken communication between two individuals. Each stroke of the brush became a way to express the emotions that flowed between them—moments of connection, tension, and everything in between.
Themes of love, conflict, and intimacy resonated across various cultures and time periods. I realized that by focusing on the universal aspects of relationships, I could create art that spoke to a broad audience, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and emotions.
Ultimately, this exploration of representing relationships in art expanded my creative horizons and deepened my appreciation for the diverse ways emotions can be conveyed visually.
